The Artists' Studio

I've had a few people ask me what my studio is like and how I work.

Well, I can answer the first question very easily with this photograph. It's possibly the shoddiest workspace ever I'd imagine and it is stuck in the corner of my bedroom. This isn't exactly what I had in mind when I had romantic ideas on being an artist in my youth I can tell you that much!

You may notice some A4 paper acting as my palette. I find it much quicker and easier to use this, rather than messing around with a clumsy artist's palette that needs constant cleaning (note, only four colours that I tend to mix from. White, yellow, red and blue. Always in that order). Notice too the folded toilet paper for cleaning my brush. No expense spared here!

More telling perhaps is the hideous brown tea stains on the far right of the desk which is testament to the ridiculous hours spent toiling away at my art and real dedication to discolouring my teeth!

You should look for a tempered glass palette. They are strong and easy to clean by running under hot water. Best tool I ever had in art school. I still have mine.

Cheers

Coincidentally, I've just posted pics of my studio on Flickr. Post-tidy but still well cluttered.

It is a familiar sight Chris, although I have moved up in the world... gone are the days of toilet paper for brush wipes, now it's a tea towel! Helz x
