Jock High Feature For ESPN Magazine / June 9th, 2011

It has been a pretty difficult year so far with jobs few and far between. Discussions with other illustrators has shown a similar pattern.
So it was with great pleasure that I found myself talking to ESPN Magazine (a publication I hadn’t previously worked for). The job was to paint six sporting personalities for a “Jock High” feature. The illustrations were to be painted in black and white with red added in certain areas.
I was given six headings (Class Clown, Best All Round Personality, Best Appetite, Best Singer, Worst Driver, Teachers Pet) that I needed to consider for each personality. The idea was to have the feel of an End of year High School book which was quite a fun idea and I enjoyed coming up with the relatively simple but effective ideas that were needed for the small scale spot illustrations.
Painting went pretty well and all at ESPN Magazine were happy with the illustrations. I hope to work with them again soon.
